If you follow my twitter, you know that last night my hubs and I met V! He’s a Ukrainian orphan we’ve been given the privileged of hosting for three weeks through Redline United.

The house we’re renting, technically, has three bedrooms. But the one really is designed to be an office with it’s french doors and ceiling to floor shelves. So we knew V would be staying in our guest bedroom, which I haven’t really done a whole lot too. It has these dressers in there and a framed picture I didn’t think suited a room where a little boy would be sleeping. So it prompted me to create two pieces of art for the guest bedroom.

My original idea came from here–I loved the concept when I saw it!

These are the colors in the guest bedroom…

I took two canvases I had around the house. One, from a Brushes & Beverages night {which was fabulous} and the other from a painting I did several years ago…I could tell a pretty funny story about that one.

But both of these canvases weren’t about to go up in my house anywhere, so they got a coat of Valspar’s Tantalizing Teal pain {after RustOleum spray on primer}. I then printed and cut out an outline of the United States and Ukraine.

I grabbed my Ralph Lauren Glaze {tinted black} and outlined around the cutout, and then over the rest of the canvases.

With some red paint, I added two hearts, and the words “love” in both English and Russian. The beautiful thing about this piece is one, it will hang above the bed of a little boy from the Ukraine who I hope experiences what it feels like to have someone care about him. And second, I happen to have the most precious niece and nephew from the Ukraine, who I love dearly. And that’s where this love art come from.

The guest room isn’t anywhere near finished, but I’m loving the direction it’s going. I really do enjoy trying to use different colors, even those outside my normal go-to palette when decorating. I think the love art is beginning to tie the whole room together!
